Community Endorsements

I am pleased to endorse Brian A. Foster for the Castro Valley Unified School Board.

Mr. Foster taught social studies (history, government, and economics) at Newark Memorial High School for four years, and during that time he also encouraged students to participate in civic engagement, early voter registration, and volunteer projects.

I grew up in Castro Valley and have always appreciated its small town flavor, similar to Newark, and your town’s commitment to academic excellence.

Please vote for my good friend, Brian, who has a passion for ensuring a quality education for all students.

—Michael Hannon

Video Endorsement from Mary Beth Tinker

Mary Beth Tinker from the Supreme Court case, Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District (1969), encourages Mr. Foster to continue teaching students about their rights and how to use them.

What Mr. Foster’s Students and Parents Say

“We have been thinking about you so much and I miss your history class more than anything, to my favorite teacher, from your favorite student.”

—Albany High School Graduate

“To do this, she switched into Mr. Foster’s advisory class for the spring semester. It was an intense process since he had to cover the entire course in half the time. Mr. Foster went above and beyond in his efforts to help a student who clearly had a hunger to learn more. When you find teachers who love what they do and are good at it, it’s important to hang onto them for the sake of the students.”

—Albany High School Parent

“You are one of the only teachers that didn’t give up on me and didn’t push me aside, and it really means a lot.”

—Newark Memorial High School Graduate

“You’ve actually taught me more than any other academic teacher has. You’ve always cared about my well-being and respected me as a person and for that I gave you my respect as a student but also as just a young man growing up.”

—Newark Memorial High School Graduate

“You are absolutely amazing, don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. You are the true definition of what a teacher should be, a genuine educator, who prioritizes your students in every way they deserve. You are the best thing that can happen to any student who is fortunate enough to call you their teacher.”

—Newark Memorial High School Parent

“Mr. Foster, I just wanted to thank you so much for being my teacher this year. You have made me feel welcomed in your class the whole year. I will miss you a lot.”

—Newark Memorial High School Student (graduated U.C. Berkeley years ahead of schedule)

“Thank god I still have notes from your class Mr.Foster! It’s helping me with my Macroeconomic class!”

—Oakland Military Institute High School Student (using high school notes in his college class)
